🎤 Interview with CC Trubiak

How long have you been making music?

I began songwriting, recording, and performing professionally in 2010 and haven’t stopped since. I also create music content on my YouTube channel, where I combine visual arts and storytelling to expand on my musical journey.

What genre would you consider your music to be?

Knowing there are so many subgenres of country music, I’d say I lean more towards alternative country — a blend of folk, inspirational, and country rock influences.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?

I’ve always felt like my purpose in life is to connect through music — especially through singing, songwriting, and performing. So many artists have helped me through difficult times, and I want to give back that same kind of support and inspiration through my own songs.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

My influences range from Classic Country, Bluegrass, Gospel, Outlaw Country, Country Rock, and Americana to modern alt-country sounds. Give me Waylon, Willie, Dolly, or Emmylou any day!

Are you signed to a label or independent?

I’m a completely independent artist, but I’m open to signing with the right label that aligns with my vision and values.

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?

As a self-taught artist from a small town, the biggest challenges have been overcoming imposter syndrome, finding mentorship, and creating visibility in a large industry. But I’ve learned to believe in myself more today than ever — and I’m not one to give up easily.

How many songs or albums have you released?

So far, I’ve released three albums:

  • They Say I’m Different (2011)

  • Tiny Army (2013)

  • McBain (2018)

All are available for streaming. I currently have 19 registered original songs as a SOCAN artist, and I’m working on adding more to the list.

Tell us about your latest release.

My last album, McBain (2018), was written after the passing of my father to cancer in 2015. The single “Raven” reached the Top 5 in the 2018 CBC Searchlight Contest, marking a major career milestone. Funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign, the album explores a wide emotional and musical range within the alternative country genre.

I also continue to produce content for my YouTube channel, including acoustic covers and Vinyl Country Deep Dives.

Any upcoming music or projects?

Absolutely. In the summer of 2025, my hometown and neighboring communities faced a major fire crisis, forcing evacuations for over a month. During that time, I leaned on songwriting for comfort and ended up writing 19 new originals.

My next goal is to record 10 of those songs in March 2026 — currently, I’m deep in the pre-production and funding phase. Stay tuned!
