🎶 CC Trubiak Earns Spot in CBC Searchlight Top 10
Flin Flon’s own CC Trubiak has reached an incredible milestone in his musical journey—securing a Top 10 spot in the prestigious CBC Searchlight competition.
Chosen out of over 2,000 submissions from across Canada, Trubiak's track "Raven" has resonated deeply with fans and judges alike. The song earned its place in the final 10 through fan voting, making Trubiak one of just five artists to advance based on public support alone.
Raven is a hauntingly emotional track co-written with Aileen Martella and features fellow Flin Flon musicians Brent Lethbridge and Erick Bergman. It appears on Trubiak’s third studio album, McBain, which was released in late 2017 and has been celebrated for its honest storytelling and rich folk-country sound.
It’s humbling to know that a song rooted so deeply in personal experience and collaboration could connect with so many people, says Trubiak.
What makes this achievement even more special is that Trubiak was the only artist from Manitoba to reach the competition’s final round that year—earning him recognition not only as a powerful songwriter but also as a cultural ambassador for northern Manitoba.
According to his CBC Searchlight profile, Trubiak is “a hardworking country-folk star in the making, who rediscovered himself and his music when he returned to his remote hometown in northern Manitoba.”
Now among the final 10, the winner of CBC Searchlight will be selected by a panel of prominent Canadian music industry professionals. The results will be announced March 19, online and across CBC Radio.
This milestone not only highlights Trubiak’s growing national presence but also reflects the enduring talent emerging from Canada’s most remote and resilient communities.
